Bantam Vees finish fifth in U.S. hockey tournament

The Penticton Murray GM bantam Vees Tier 2 team won two of four games in Boise Fall Face-Off.

The Penticton Murray GM bantam Tier 2 Vees placed fifth in the Boise Fall Face-Off Oct. 14-16.

The Vees, the lone Canadian entry in the 12-team tournament placed fifth after wrapping up play with a 5-1 win over the Montana Thunderblades. Kieran Simpson scored twice, while Calum McGill, Brennan Nelson and Levi Carter also scored.  The Vees opened with a 3-1 loss to the Boise Steelheads.

The Vees then crushed the Arizona Coyotes 7-0 with Aaron Funk leading the way with two goals, while Nelson, Simpson, Matt Olsen, Carter and Carter White scoring.

The Vees earned another dominant win, this time 8-0 over the Utah Grizzlies. Funk put up another two-goal performance, while Gage Leclair scored, as well as Carter, Kai Espenhain, Olsen, Obuck and Nelson. The Vees concluded round robin play with a 3-1 loss to Kent Valley. Carter scored for the Vees.

The Vees play their first league game of the season in Trail and Castlegar this weekend, they then host a tournament on Nov. 6 to 8.
