Penticton Basketball Camp has cancelled it's boys section as Gordie Herbert is not able to coach due to an injury.

The Penticton Basketball Camp enters its 35th consecutive season with one major change.

The boys camp, headlined for three years by former Penticton Laker and American and European basketball star, Gordie Herbert, is cancelled. Due to a back injury, Herbert will not be able to coach this summer.

"It is a very disappointing situation for our boys camp," said Penticton Basketball camp organizer Fred Fedorak.

However, the girls camp will be headed by Bruce Langford,  head coach of the Simon Fraser University women's Basketball team for his 15th consecutive season. This year Langford will bring his entire SFU roster. The girls will receive top level instruction from Langford and executed and demonstrated by his players, who Fedorak said are excellent role models for female athletes.

"We are so fortunate and proud to be able to include Bruce and his SFU team in our program," said Fedorak. "Very few coaches are able to provide basketball instruction, with fun involved, as well as Bruce Langford and his players. Campers are never disappointed with the basketball program that he provides."

The girl's camp will run Aug.2-5. Players competing in the Lake City Club program, until June 30, are able to take advantage of a special discount. Information and registration forms can be obtained from the Penticton Basketball Camp website, www.members.shaw.ca/flfedorak/index.html.
