Cooper nets winner to push Vees past Chiefs

Olivier Mantha makes 36 saves in Vees win, while Dalpe finished with three points against Chilliwack in BCHL action

The Penticton Vees opened up their three-game road trip with a 6-3 win against the Chiefs in Chilliwack.

Steen Cooper potted the winner in Prospera Centre on the power play at 13:21. Travis Blanleil, in his second game following a two-game suspension, opened the scoring for the Vees at 13:46 of the first period. Jack Ramsey then made it 2-0 after being set up by Max Coatta.

The Chiefs clawed back into the game on goals by Jake Hand and Carter Cochrane. The Vees took the lead back on a goal by Ben Dalpe, which led to Cooper's winning goal. Vees affiliate player Mitch Newsome contribued to the offense with his first goal in the BCHL. Coatta then added an insurance marker at 7:56 of the third period when Dalpe set him up.

Power plays for both teams struck twice. The Vees getting five chances, while the Chiefs had four.

Oliver Mantha made 36 saves for the win, his 11th of the season and fifth away from the South Okanagan Events Centre. Spencer Tremblay turned aside 36 in a losing cause.

The Vees are in Cowichan Valley where Cooper will face his former team for the first time.
