Coyotes regain lead over Steam in KIJHL series

Summerland Steam looks to fight off elimination at Summerland Arena Monday night

After two wins on home ice, the Summerland Steam lost 5-2 to the Osoyoos Coyotes on Sunday.

The game, at the Osoyoos Sun Bowl, was the fifth in the best-of-seven division finals with the Coyotes leading 3-2 with Game 6 returning to Summerland at 7:30 p.m.

After a scoreless first period, Brett Jewell of Osoyoos scored at 19:43, assisted by Aaron Azevedo and Troy Maclise.

Summerland brought the game to a tie with a power play goal by Tyson Klingspohn at 18:14. Jack Mills and Rylan Sideroff assisted.

Osoyoos regained the lead at 16:05 when Colten Braid scored, assisted by Ryan Roseboom. Blake Holowaty of Osoyoos added another goal at 11:48, with assists by Roseboom and Brett Anderson.

In the third period, Maclise scored for Osoyoos at 16:41, assisted by Tyler Ostrom and Jewell.

Daylan Robertson of the Steam added a power play goal at 12:40, with assists by Mills and Cole Woodliffe.

Osoyoos had the final goal at 6:37, scored by Braid with the assist by Roseboom.

The sixth game in the division finals is at the Summerland Arena this evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

If a seventh game is required, it will be in Osoyoos on Tuesday evening, beginning at 7:35 p.m.

This series marks the first time since the 2002-03 season that a Summerland junior B hockey team has advanced to the second round of playoff hockey action.

In the regular season, Osoyoos was the top ranked team in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League while Summerland was ranked second in the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference Okanagan Division.
