A hulking defenceman committed to an NCAA hockey powerhouse has inked a deal with the Penticton Vees.

The club signed Sean Burick, 17, to a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement, it announced on June 19.

“Sean has enormous potential and embodies the attitude we’re looking for as we build our WHL program,” said Fred Harbinson, the Vees' president, general manager, and head coach. “His size and skill on the back end will be a tremendous asset.”

Burick spent the last two seasons playing at the prestigious Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Minnesota. The San Clemente, Calif. product recorded 18 points in 44 games last season, during his U.S. High School Prep campaign.

A graduate of the Los Angeles Kings' AAA program, Burick also helped lead Shattuck-St. Mary’s to the 2025 USA Hockey Youth Tier I 18U National Championship in Pennsylvania this past April.

The 6’7”, 196-pound skater is committed to Denver University of the NCAA.

He'll bring a "rare combination of size and mobility to the Vees’ blue line," the team said in a release.

Burick was originally selected by the Tri-City Americans in the 2023 WHL U.S. Prospects Draft before he was acquired by Penticton through the expansion draft this spring.
