Two of the newest Penticton Vees set to make their debuts in the BCHL this September have been drafted by NHL teams.

Defenceman Larry Keenan was selected by the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, June 29, in the fourth round (117th overall) of the NHL Draft, with forward Ryan MacPherson taken by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round (172nd overall).

The pair, both from Ontario, recently committed to the Vees for the 2023-2024 season.

Keenan, 18, spent last season playing at the Culver Military Academy in Indiana, where he finished third in scoring on the school’s prep team from the blue line.

MacPherson and his twin brother Connor, 18, are set to join the Vees this fall after spending two seasons in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

With the selections of Keenan and MacPherson, a total of four Vees were taken in this year’s NHL Draft.

While the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday made Bradly Nadeau a first-round pick, the Calgary Flames selected Aydar Suniev in the third round one day later.
