Elementary school kids get their kicks with Pinnacles FC

Penticton elementary schools partner with Pinnacles FC.

A partnership between Pinnacles FC and Penticton elementary schools has given students a glimpse of what soccer is about.

“They get excited about the games,” said Queen’s Park Elementary School coach Scott Edwards. “It gives them a real sense of what soccer can be like. It’s a real atmosphere that helps promote the idea of being active.”

Approximately 70 kids from Queen’s Park, West Bench School, Columbia School and Wiltse, have been playing at King’s Park since late September and the program will wrap up next week. Edwards said this opportunity has given the kids in Grades 4 and 5 an idea of the soccer atmosphere.

Working with the Pinnacles FC players, kids were put through the paces of skill development drills and got game experience with referees provided by the soccer assocation.

“I think the key thing is, they have their Pinnacle players, their older players run through how to properly warm up,” said Edwards.
