Seven years in a row now the South Okanagan Secondary School Hornets are winners of the Old Shoe.

The Hornets traveled to Penticton to face the Lakers in the Old Shoe game, which has been played since 1961. The shoe was bronzed two years later.

Trailing 23-19 at the half, the Hornets took an eight point lead late in the fourth only to allow the Lakers to score seven unanswered points in the last minute of play to close the game within 1 with 15 seconds to play. Hornet Gurk Dhaliwal hit two freethrows to seal the victory.

Jordan Farmer led the Lakers with 15 points, while Sunny Jhaj had 13. Malcolm Heinrichs led the Hornets with 17 points, while Jashan Khela added 13.

The Hornets will now prepare for their sixth straight provincials, while the Lakers, who finished fourth in Okanagan zone, will face the No. 5 ranked Mt. Boucherie Bears in Kelowna on Thursday.
