Penticton will be the home to hundreds of competitive swimmers across B.C. this weekend.

SwimBC is bringing its divisional championships to the Peach City from Feb. 25 to 27 and clubs from the Interior and North regions of the province are expected to attend.

KISU Swim Club will act as the host of the event with meets taking place at the Penticton Community Centre Pool at 325 Power Street. That will also mean that the pool will be closed for public swims this weekend.

Swimmers aged 12 to 15 will take to the pool starting on Friday (Feb. 24) at 9 a.m. for the preliminary round of the competition. Awards will be presented to select swimmers at the end of the finals on Sunday (Feb. 27).

Those who have posted at least one divisional qualifying time in their age group are eligible for competition, among other requirements, according to SwimBC.

Penticton-based swim club KISU has hosted divisional and provincial events in the past, most recently in the fall of 2019.

Penticton will be joined by Vancouver and Nanaimo as the three cities in the province to host SwimBC events this weekend.

Fraser and Island swim divisions will meet up in Nanaimo, while coastal swimmers in the province will compete at Vancouver’s aquatic centre starting on Friday.

Even though Penticton will be the host of divisional championships this weekend, the city has also been home to provincial competitions in the past.

Swimmers that have previously posted provincial qualifying times are not eligible for this weekend’s competition.
