The Penticton Vees will be without their captain for the rest of the season.

Forward Fin Williams will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2021-2022 B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) campaign, the team announced on Tuesday (Jan. 18).

Williams will require surgery after suffering a lower-body injury.

The 18-year old has acted as the Vees’ captain since the start of the 2020-2021 season. In 86 career BCHL games, the forward has scored 28 goals while adding 58 assists.

“We found out on Monday that our Captain Fin Williams suffered a season-ending injury that requires surgery,” said Fred Harbinson, the team’s president, general manager and head coach. “Fin has been the consummate leader, teammate and citizen during his time as a Vee. We will continue to support Fin through this difficult rehab process.”

Williams, a University of Michigan commit, has been exactly a point-per-game player during his three-season run in the BCHL.

In his second season with the Vees during the 2021-2022 season, the forward ranked seventh in league scoring with 12 goals and 37 points.

The Vees captain was set to represent Penticton at the BCHL’s 60th-anniversary all-star in January before the league postponed the festivities just before Christmas because of COVID-19 concerns.

Penticton (21-5-0-2) will hit the ice for the first time without its captain on Wednesday (Jan. 19) when they visit the Prince George Spruce Kings (18-14-1-0).

Harbinson’s squad had their most recent game postponed on Saturday when the team had issues crossing the United States border on the way to a showdown with the Wenatchee Wild.
