Hundreds of student-athletes from more than 30 post-secondary institutions will be in Kelowna for the USPORTS Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 9.
The UBC Okanagan Heat are hosting the event, which is the first university championship it has hosted since 2016, the Curling Canada Championships.
“We couldn't be prouder and more excited to bring this prestigious event to the Okanagan,” said UBCO Director of Athletics and Recreation Tom Huisman. “Runners representing schools from across the country will be coming to Kelowna to compete for individual and team medals. The championship is a very fan-friendly event where spectators can view the action on our huge video board while the runners compete on our four-lap cross-country course.”
Going into the championships, UBCO's women's team is coming off a bronze medal performance at the Canada West Championships. The men's team finished ninth.
The USPORTS championships are taking place at Mission Recreation Park with the men's race at 12 p.m. and the women's race at 1 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
