KVR Middle School’s boys and girls grade 8 volleyball teams took home the championship titles for the South Okanagan Zone on Nov. 15.

“The last few games in the year have been really hard,” said coach Jeremy Sherburne. “They came together though. The boys team went undefeated this year. A lot of them have played together since Grade 6, and they really enjoyed ending the year like this.”

This was the final volleyball tournament of the year for the grade 8 players. The boys faced off against Oliver in the semi-final, and then Summerland in the final match of the tournament. KVR Middle School took the final match in two straight sets.

The girls grade 8 team also defeated Summerland in their finals for their title. This marks the first year since 2009 that the boys team has won a championship. The last time the girls team won the championship was in 2011.

“They were playing hard, very focused” said Sherburne. “The girls too. It’s the first time since 2009 that both teams took home the title. It’s been a while, but they’re all very happy with how they did.”
