Lakers golf team comes up short in Okanagan Valley championship

The Pen High Lakers golf team fell short of qualifying for the provincial championship on Monday.

The Lakers scored a combined 331 in the Okanagan Valley Championship at the Penticton Golf and Country Club. Taking the championship was Kelowna Secondary, scoring 307 and led by Jake Gilchrist, who shot an individual low, 71 for the day. Mt.Boucherie finished second scoring 330.

The Lakers were led by senior Haley Hewer, who fired a 77. Other members of the Lakers, all in Grade 10, included Aiden Hutcheson, Kyler Philip, Cam Gunning and Nathan Bendig.

"Although the  youthful Pen Hi golf team did not qualify, the future looks bright for next season," said coach Gord Barnes.
