Lakers volleyball teams prepared for valley championship

Lakers senior girls squad ready to compete for a provincial berth

Andy Botero feels good about his Pen High Lakers senior girls volleyball team heading into the 3A Okanagan Valley championships this weekend.

The Lakers ranked ninth provincially will be in West Kelowna this weekend as the Mt. Boucherie Bears host the championship tournament.

"I feel as though our senior girls team has really gelled this past couple of weeks and we are ready for valleys," said Botero. "We are looking forward to fighting for a spot at provincials."

There are two spots available in the valley for the championships in Nanaimo Dec. 3-5. There are two more positions available in an eight-team wild card tournament which Kelowna Secondary hosts next weekend.

At this time in the season, Botero has his player focusing on consistency.

"The team that can be mentally tougher will win the match," he said. "We are confident but recognize that we will be playing against tough competition.  If we play the way we are capable, then we should advance."

The senior boys team coached by Rob Gunning will be in Rutland this weekend.
