The Penticton Open championship trophy is staying in the Peach City after a local resident ousted golf players from across Western Canada last weekend.
Hosted by the 100-year-old Penticton Golf and Country Club from July 14 to 16, Brooks Lancaster became a five-time winner of the tournament, capturing the first-place award for the first time since 2015.
Competing against golfers from Surrey, Chilliwack, Pitt Meadows, Prince George, and even from cities across Alberta, Lancaster shot seven below par (203) to capture the title and edge out Gordon Fisher from Summerland by four strokes.
“It’s great to be able to have a big event again,” said Guy Dow, the course’s general manager. “So great to have support from players all across British Columbia and Alberta to join us in Penticton.”
A total of 200 players from the two provinces competed in the 64th annual edition of the tournament, Dow added.
Players in this year’s Penticton Open competed across five different divisions.
The annual tournament comes just five weeks after the local golf course celebrated its 100th anniversary.
