The Penticton Mariners peewee A baseball team lost 18-8 in the championship of a six-team Kelowna tournament over the weekend. The Mariners opened with an 11-6 win against the Kelowna Bears May 29. On May 30, the Mariners played a double-header against two Kelowna teams, winning 14-13 and 9-8. Despite losing the tournament championship, coach Allen Wilson said his players worked hard and made great plays. Before that tournament, the Mariners had won two of its last three games. After losing to Keremeos 11-9 on the road May 12, the Mariners bounced back to defeat Keremeos 15-10 on May 19 and doubled up West Kelowna 12-6 on May 23. The Mariners have swung consistent bats and the defence has been playing well. Jordan Picheniuk has been credited with getting the team in great spirits and making everyone smile and laugh.
