Mother nature doesn't do Tigers a favour

SOMBA bantam AA Tigers lose to Kelowna Reds in four games

Mother nature took away home field advantage from the South Okanagan Minor Baseball bantam AA Tigers.

Looking to utilize their opportunity against the Kelowna Reds, McNicoll Park received a downpour of rain Friday evening. The Tigers and Reds only managed to play three innings before the series switched over to West Kelowna on Saturday where the Tigers were able to win that game. That was their lone win in four as the Reds will advance to provincials in Aldergrove.

Game three was a difficult loss for the Tigers, who surrendered a 5-1 lead only to lose 6-5 in 10 innings.

“The late game with that many innings took a lot out of the players,” said Tigers coach Joel Graf. “The momentum really wasn’t in our court.”

The Tigers then had a tough start in game four and faced a 7-0 deficit. The Tigers managed to step up and scored five runs in two innings only to lose 8-5.

Graf said that Matt Brodt stood out as he won the first game. Behind the plate, Chase Decosse was “pretty much phenomenal.” He played through a back strain and came up clutch according to Graf. Also standing out were Tayler Kanke, Matt Jones and Brad Fleming.

“Everybody sort of had their part,” said Graf, who was disappointed by the final result.
