STEVI NAGLE with Crossfit Penticton completes a lift during the Okanagan Valley Throwdown last year in the South Okanagan Centre Centre. The event attracted 350 athletes and registration for this year sold out quickly.

It took less than 15 minutes for this year’s Okanagan Valley Throwdown to fill it’s athlete registration.

The annual fitness competition co-presented by Hoodoo Adventures and Evolution Athletics, is being held this weekend at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Spectators are invited to check out the action with partial proceeds from ticket sales going to support the South Okanagan Children’s Charity.

“The event is exciting to watch and the more we pack the stands, the harder those athletes work to get you cheering,” said Lyndie Hill, owner of Hoodoo Adventures in a press release.  “Extra cheerful fans will be eligible for a number of prizes. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, including title sponsor Muscle MLK Canada.”

CrossFit combines Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics and high intensity interval training along with other sport specific movements and challenges. While the Okanagan Valley Throwdown is geared towards fitness enthusiasts who already take part in CrossFit, either competitively or recreationally, the event appeals to athletes of all abilities, especially first time and recreational competitors. This event attracts individuals, recreational groups, competitive and masters (ages 40+) teams.

Among the competitors will be BC Lions receiver Emmanuel Arceneaux competing in the team event with members from Langley’s Hybrid Athletics (team name: Primal Performance). Arceneaux will take on weightlifting, gymnastics and high intensity interval training along with many other sport specific movements and challenges.

“I’m still in learning mode when it comes to CrossFit, but I love the competition and I’m inspired by the skill and determination of these amazing athletes,” said the 2015 CFL All-Star in a release issued by the team. “It’s as intense as any professional sport and it’s going to be a lot fun.”

“We are excited to partner with such a well-produced fitness event that draws people from all over the province,” said Anjulie Latta, regional manager, Muscle MLK Canada. “The spirit of this event is competitive yet fun, lighthearted and inspirational, and a great fit for our brand. We can’t wait to be part of the action and know it will be an amazing weekend for athletes and spectators alike.”

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $5/person per day, $8/person weekend pass, $20/family of four for both days. Tickets can be purchased online at okanaganvalleythrowdown.com/ or in-person at the Valley First Ticket Office (located at the South Okanagan Events Centre).
