Penticton’s KISU Swim Club didn’t disappoint last weekend (March 11 to 13) in its showing at B.C. Winter Provincial Championships in Victoria.

Taryn Weatherhead and Hannah Rutten dominated on the provincial stage, leading the way in what was described as a “very successful weekend” for the Penticton swim club.

“We also had a number of swimmers who made new qualifying times for the upcoming Western Nationals,” said Tina Hoeben, the club’s head coach.

Weatherhead, 13, had seven podium finishes over the course of the weekend while posting a qualifying time for Swim BC’S upcoming National Trials.

Her teammate, Rutten, won two medals during the festivities, including a gold medal in the 200 metre backstroke.

Like Weatherhead, Rutten competed in the 13 to 14 age category.

KISU sent a total of 22 swimmers to the provincial championships, an event organizers refer to as “the pinnacle of Swim BC competitive programming.”

Results from an Okanagan-wide swim meet in February, hosted by the Penticton Community Centre Pool, determined which athletes would receive an invite to participate in Victoria.

The KISU Swim Club hosted 15 other teams from as close as Kelowna to as far as Prince George in the divisional championships to determine the results.

While a number of KISU swimmers prepare for the upcoming Western Nationals, Weatherhead is set to be Penticton’s representative at the National Trials later this month.
