Two players from within the Penticton Vees organization were selected Saturday in the 2014 NHL entry draft.
Miles Gendron, who’s expected to join the Vees this coming season after playing high school hockey in Massachusetts, was selected in the third round, 70th overall, by the Ottawa Senators on what was also his 18th birthday.
The six-foot-two, 173-pound defenceman scored 19 points in 22 games last season with Rivers Academy independent school.
He’s committed to play in Penticton for 2014-15, then move on to the University of Connecticut in fall 2015.
The other Vee to hear his name called was Jack Ramsey, who was taken in the seventh round, 208th overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks.
The six-foot-two, 185-pound forward scored nine goals and 25 points in 57 regular season games last season. He’s set to attend the University of Minnesota in fall 2015.
“Today was the culmination of the hard work Jack put it last year, as he constantly improved his game throughout the season,” Vees coach Fred Harbinson said in a statement.
“He finished on a high note in the playoffs and we expect him to be a key piece to our leadership group next season.”
