It was a golden weekend in Salmon Arm for the Penticton peewee rec Skaha Ford Mustangs hockey team.

The Mustangs took the top prize in the tournament last weekend that featured 16 teams from around the province.

“This is great momentum for the team going into this upcoming weekend’s Penticton Peewee Recreation Tournament,” said head coach Colin Powell.

After a slow start in the first day of action against Langley, the Mustangs rebounded.

“The Mustangs were able to come back for a spirited 5-5 tie, showing the teams test of character,” said Powell.

They followed that with wins against Kamloops and Kelowna to then meet the host team in the semifinal game and defeating them 6-3.

The Mustangs went on to win gold by defeating West Kelowna 7-2 in the final.

This is the third tournament medal the team has nabbed this season. In November the Mustangs won gold in Spokane and silver in Summerland.
