One of Penticton’s own is coming back from Ottawa with some hardware.

Penticton Vees forward Bradley Nadeau won a silver medal at the Capital City Challenge U17 Tournament as part of Team Canada Red on Dec. 1.

Nadeau was one of two BCHL players picked to play in the Capital City Challenge, a one-time event created in lieu of the cancelled World U17 Hockey Challenge.

A four-team tournament, the Capital City Challenge featured three national men’s U17 teams and Canada’s National Women’s Team. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of the usual World U17 Hockey Challenge, Hockey Canada created the event to serve as a one-time replacement tournament.

Nadeau’s team lost 5-4 in overtime against Team Canada Black in a thrilling gold medal game.

The Vees’ forward and Team Canada Red were 0.04 seconds away from winning the gold medal in Ottawa before the eventual winners tied the game, sending the showdown to a fourth frame.

Nadeau is returning home with his Vees teammates after a productive tournament. The forward scored four points in five games played in Ottawa, finishing fifth in team scoring.

As for his productivity with the Vees (15-2-0-0), Nadeau sits as a better than a point per game player.

The forward has 16 points in 13 career games with Penticton, including a four-goal effort on Oct. 30, 2020, against the Powell River Kings.

Nadeau and the Vees return to the ice on Friday night when they host the Cranbrook Bucks.

Along with hosting 100 per cent of its capacity, Friday’s game at the South Okanagan Events Centre will mark the annual Teddy Bear Toss after the team’s opening goal of the game.
