Penticton Vees pick up Quebec defenseman

Philippe Chapleau played for Team Canada East and two all-start teams

The Penticton Vees have picked up a Team Canada defenseman to be part of their team.

Philippe Chapleau, 20, will be joining the team from the Longueuil College-Francais of the Quebec Junior Hockey League (QJHL) in exchange for future considerations.

In 2019, the Quebec native represented Canada on the national level, playing for Team Canada East in the World Junior A Challenge. During the tournament, he earned a goal and three assists in his five games, before being named to the WJAC All-Star Team.

Chapleau, 20, comes to the Vees and the BC Hockey League after spending the past three seasons with his hometown team in Longueuil, posting 21 goals and 113 assists for 134 points in 132 games played. With his 55 points in the season, he was named to the QJHL First All Star-Team.

The BCHL announced a tentative start date to their 2020-21 regular season for Dec. 1, prior to the announcement of increased restrictions including limits to travel on Nov. 19.
