The Penticton Vees hadn’t played since Nov. 13 before the team’s showdown in Cranbrook against the Bucks on Sunday.
While the BCHL continues to announce scheduling changes, amid the devastating floods seen across the province, the Vees got their first opportunity to hit the ice since all the postponements began early last week.
Penticton made the most of it beating Cranbrook on Sunday afternoon.
Seven different goal scorers contributed to a 7-1 Vees win against the Bucks, with captain Fin Williams opening the game’s scoring in the first period.
After the Bucks had tied the game less than a minute later, Penticton scored six unanswered goals throughout the rest of the showdown, cruising to its 11th victory of the season.
The Vees (11-2-0-0) enjoyed a three-goal period in the final frame and remained perfect on the penalty kill, securing the win and returning strong after going a week without any game action.
Two days prior to Penticton’s battle against the Bucks, the BCHL had made several changes to its schedule. From Nov. 19-21, a total of eight games were postponed, including the Vees’ matchup against Chilliwack on Friday.
“It’s been a tough week for many across the province with major flooding in several areas of B.C.,” reads a statement released by the BCHL on Friday. “Two areas that were hit the hardest are also home to BCHL teams as the City of Merritt and the Fraser Valley, home to the Chilliwack Chiefs, suffered serious damage.”

Though the league postponed several games to start the weekend, they also added two matchups onto the schedule. Friday and Saturday featured two additional games collectively, featuring Surrey visiting Coquitlam and Cranbrook hosting Trail.
Penticton saw two of its games announced as postponed because of the floods. Both matchups, against Merritt and Chilliwack respectively, were slated to be played at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
“The league will provide an update on the status of the postponed games as well as any other potential schedule changes in the coming days,” the BCHL said as they concluded its scheduling update.
