Kaeden Lane made 26 saves on Wednesday night, securing the Penticton Vees’ 15th victory of the season as they defeated the Prince George Spruce Kings 5-1 at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
After trailing by one after the first period, the Vees scored three times in the second frame to take a 3-1 advantage. Josh Nadeau’s equalizer got the party started and from there, the Vees scored an additional four unanswered goals throughout the rest of the affair.
Nadeau’s 14th marker of the season extended his goal-scoring streak to seven games.
Five different Penticton (15-2-0-0) goal scorers made an appearance on the scoresheet in the team’s victory in Prince George (10-7-0-0).
The Spruce Kings handed the Vees their first loss of the 2021-2022 season on Oct. 27. Since then, Fred Harbinson’s squad has rattled off 10 wins in 11 games.
Penticton’s power play has acted as a strong suit for the team in the early goings of the season. With another two goals with the man advantage on Wednesday night, the Vees have scored a power play marker in 14 consecutive games.
Four of the next six Vees games will be played at the South Okanagan Events Centre, a place that Penticton has yet to lose at this season.
The Vees will take their seven-game win streak into the homestand, starting with a pair of weekend games against the Cranbrook Bucks and the Wenatchee Wild respectively.
Cranbrook will visit the Vees’ home on Friday, marking the first time this season that the SOEC will host 100 per cent of its capacity. Along with the building potentially being full for the first time in almost two years, Penticton’s next game will also feature the annual Teddy Bear Toss after the Vees’ opening goal of the night when fans can throw new teddy bears and PJs on to the ice.
