Pinnacles FC U18 remain unbeaten in girls soccer provincials

Jasper Pankratz scored a hattrick to lead Pinnacles FC U18 past the Tigers

The Pinnacles FC under-18 team positioned themselves well in the B.C. Soccer Girls B Cup provincials Friday.

Jasper Pankratz potted a hat trick in a 6-1 win over the SFC Tigers.

“Her performance was really good. She was nervous yesterday,” said Pinnacles assistant coach Duarte Francisco, adding that Pankratz played goal Thursday in a 5-1 win over the Richmond Ravens as keeper Shelby Rodgers served a one-game suspension. “She was ready to play. She had an awesome game. She assisted on a goal to Britney Young.”

The Pinnacles other scorers were Savanna Yamamoto and Ailie Hayman. Francisco said from yesterday’s game, which they were unsure about, to today, they played well. The Pinnacles coach added there were things they could have improved, but there were others they did well.

“We didn’t show too much panic. Scored goals from passes,” he said. “It wasn’t just a shot on net. Our goals were well organized by the back all the way up.”

With the two victories, the worse the Pinnacles can finish is fourth. A win tomorrow against the Tsawwassen Blues at Dale Meadows 3 at 11 a.m. ensures a spot in the gold medal game.

Scoreless after the first half, the Pinnacles FC U14s and Kelowna United couldn’t find a golden goal for the winner. Kelowna tied the game late after Kayla Haukaas gave the Pinnacles the lead 15 minutes into the half.

“They came out with a great effort today,” said Pinnacles coach Ray Hintz, who also coaches the U18 side.

The Pinnacles were disappointed on Thursday against the Chilliwack Attack. Leading 1-0 at the half, the Pinnacles lost 5-1.

“I wanted us to put the effort in today. I didn’t care about the result even though you do want to win,” he said. “I just wanted a better effort. The girls played extremely hard.”

With some help, the Pinnacles can still play in the bronze medal game.
