Penticton's midget 2 Vees rec squad is happy with its fifth-place finish in a tournament hosted by Penticton minor hockey.

While the Vees opened by losing to Semiahmoo, the eventual tournament winners, they finished the tournament defeating the Salmon Arm Silvertips 5-4.

"It went really well for us," said Vees coach Mario Carelse. "After that we won three and tied. The kids had fun and the coaches were happy with how the kids played."

Carelse said his team played with pace and skated hard. They also stayed out of the box most of the tournament until the final game. Heading into the weekend, the Vees were focused on playing solid for the entire game and not taking penalties. Carelse wanted to use those games to gain momentum heading into their final regular season game, Saturday against Penticton 1. Playoffs begin in February. Carelse likes the direction his team is headed.

The Vees are second in the Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association standings at 9-3-3. Penticton 1 is 8-4-2, while team 3 is 6-6-3.
