RBC Cup diary with Penticton Vees forward Connor Reilly

Injured forward Connor Reilly provides fans with his view of the Game 1 loss to the Soo Thunderbirds

Hey Vees fans!  We lost Game 1 of the RBC Cup to the Soo Thunderbirds 2-1.  I thought we played a pretty good game. By pretty good, I mean not near our potential.  Soo played hard and their goalie was outstanding.  The final shots were 45-15 in our favour.  After multiple shots in front of Michael Garteig, a Soo player finally put a rebound away to open the score.  Joey Benik got us on the scoreboard in the second to tie it and I was telling myself the flood gates have opened after that.  The first period we seemed a little nervous and you can't blame them; we are on the biggest stage you can be right now.  The second we played Vees' hockey, which is with speed, talent, hard work and discipline.  The third we played a pretty good period as well, with Soo scoring the game-winning goal on a snap shot.  Overall, we have a lot more in us.  After the game, not a single player was satisfied.  That doesn't mean guys were beating themselves up, they were just saying how much better we can play.  It is only one game and after the top four teams get to the semi-finals, the round robin really does not mean much.  What I love most about our team is we expect so much out of ourselves and everyone of us challenges ourselves to play the very best we can.  We will be ready to play tomorrow and we are gonna play Penticton Vees hockey.  Right now we are just hanging out at the hotel and gonna eat another meal around 8:45 p.m.  I have missed all of the guys and would do anything to be going to battle with them the rest of the week.  I am finally back with the boys after eight long weeks.  Game two tomorrow.  More updates to come.
