Record set during Naramata Cross Country Run

Naramata Cross Country Championship Races welcomed 406 students from 14 school to take on the 2.3 kilometre run under sunny conditions on Oct.14.

Holy Cross won the Grade 4 girls division with 97 points with Wiltse Elementary in second and Naramata in third. Trout Creek School won it for Grade 5 with 125 points, while Holy Cross was second and Columbia School was third. Winning the boys championship in Gade 4 was Wiltse Elementary with 37 points, followed by Uplands and Giant's Head. In Grade 5 the winner was Uplands with 128 points, followed by Wiltse and Parkway.

Individually,  Wiltse Elementary's Gabby Lindsay set a record for Grade 5 completing the distance in nine minutes, 58 seconds. Behind her was Kaleden's Josie Nickel in 10:03, while Lauren Bitte of Giant's Head took third in 10:44.

Ethan Askey from Holy Cross won in 9:33, while Wiltse Elementary runners Josh Schindel (9:34) and Thomas Caruso (9:47) rounded out the top three.

In Grade 4, the boys race was tight as Alex Lobb from Uplands Elementary won in 10 minutes, edging out Kaden Collins of Wiltse Elementary by one second and Spencer McRann, also of Wiltse, by two seconds. Jaida Powell of Westbench is the girls winner in 10:50. Second-place went to Kyra Souch of Kaleden, who came in 10 seconds later at 11 minutes. Grace Campbell and Hanna Musgrave tied for third, though Campbell clocked in at 11:03, while Musgrave finished in 11:06.
