Seventh man contest for minor hockey players

Okanagan minor hockey players will get the chance to be the Vancouver Canucks’ seventh man.

Okanagan minor hockey players will get the chance to be the Vancouver Canucks’ seventh man.

“The Vancouver Canucks are very gracious to offer an opportunity with one of their grassroots program,” said Vancouver Canucks Young Stars tournament organizing chair Andrew Jakubeit.

“Exclusively for Okanagan minor hockey players can be chosen to go on the ice as seventh man for national anthem and starting lineups,” he said.

All the player has to do is go to www.soec.ca to enter. Jakubeit said this initiative is to help build excitement towards the tournament, which begins Sunday.

“There are still good seats available,” said Jakubeit.

Tickets are available at www.valleyfirstTIX.com, by phone at 1-877-763-2849 or in person at the South Okanagan Events Centre box office. Limited tournaments packages are still available at a cost of $100.

The tournament opens with a 4 p.m. matchup between the San Jose Sharks and Calgary Flames, followed by the Canucks against Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and the Edmonton Oilers at 7:30 p.m.

Last year’s tournament featured 20 prospects who went on to play in the NHL.
