Summerland’s Heming Sola finished fourth in the Under 13 boys race at the Hayman Classic 2015 Provincial Road Championships.

Sola, riding for the Axel Merckx Red Devils Academy based out of Kelowna, pulled out in the lead for some of the race finishing the 21 kilometre ride just 16 seconds behind the leader for fourth place.

In the Criterium Mass Start race, Sola tied for second in the 15 kilometre trek. A strong showing in the Time Trial saw Sola pick up second place. Overall, in the Under 13 boys category, the Summerland rider finished in second. Griffen Hart from the Tripleshot Cycling Club (Yukon) finished just seven seconds in front of Sola to take first overall.

Ron Hayman, race director, said there was 108 registered riders for the third year of the weekend race, which stretched over parts of the Axel Merckx granfondo course and downtown Penticton.

“It was a great weekend and we hope having the racing right in Penticton will help inspire local kids to join the sport. Putting the racing right in front of them shows that the sport is a viable option for them,” said Hayman. “We definitely will be back to race again in Penticton.”
