Steam lose in double OT to Wranglers

The Summerland Steam lost the opening game of their KIJHL conference final to the 100 Mile House Wranglers

The Summerland Steam are down 1-0 to the 100 Mile House Wranglers in the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference final.

The teams met for Game 1 of their Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoff series with the Wranglers taking a 3-2 double overtime victory in front of a crowd of 574 at the South Cariboo Rec Center.

Wranglers goalie Zane Steeves made 27 saves with Cole Zimmerman playing the hero at 9:25 of OT beating Matthew Huber, who finished with 41 saves. Also scoring for the Wranglers were Ryan Friesen and Alex Hanson. For the Steam it was Keenan Scott, who opened the scoring on the power play at 15:32 of the first and Jarrett Malchow, who forced extra time with his second period tally.

The Steam and Wranglers meet again tonight at 7 p.m.

In the other KIJHL series, the Kimberley Dynamiters cruised past the Beaver Valley Nitehawks 6-1.
