Summerland Steam lose one, win one in hockey action

Junior B team loses to Golden, but wins against Chase

For the second weekend in a row, the Summerland Steam lost a home game but went on to win on the road.

On Friday, the Steam hosted the Golden Rockets, losing 3-1.

The Steam took the lead at 17:43 in the first period when Justin Swan scored, assisted by Ryan Allen and Zak Cooper.

At 9:10, the Rockets responded to tie the game when Dominic Turner, assisted by Rile Egan, scored for the Rockets.

In the second period at 7:59, Terrell Vekved of the Rockets scored on a shorthanded goal to give Golden the lead.

Turner and Zach Salyn assisted.

The final goal, with 15 seconds remaining in the game came when Brendan Sime-Vivian scored an unassisted empty net goal.

On Saturday, the Steam traveled to Chase to defeat the Heat in a 1-0 decision.

The sole goal of the game came at 9:17 in the first period when Justin Swan scored, assisted by Tristan Hewitt and Cody Swan.

At present the Steam are in second place in the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference:Okanagan Division in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

Summerland’s record is two wins and two losses in regular season play.

Next weekend, the Steam will play a pair of road games. On Friday, the team will travel to Nelson to face the Leafs. The game, at the Nelson Community Complex, begins at 7 p.m. On Saturday, they will be in Castlegar, playing against the Rebels. The game will be at the Castlegar Complex, beginning at 7 p.m.
