SOUTH OKANAGAN Minor Baseball Association Tiger Paul Jacyna couldn’t reach the ball in time to tag out Tri City’s Thomas Connell. The Tigers lost both games 13-0 and 16-3 on July 26.

The South Okanagan Minor Baseball Association midget Tigers closed out its under-18 AAA season with a sweep at the hands of Ridge Meadows.

The Tigers bowed 10-4 and 7-6 at Carmi Field July 27 to finish with an 8-27 record, finishing last among the 10 teams.

Tigers coach Junior Deleon felt his players performed well to finish off the schedule. He especially liked that they were able to stay in games longer.

“Even when we were down, the dugout atmosphere still felt like the game wasn’t over,” he said. “It was good to see that fire from the boys.”

Deleon talked about a game against Kamloops on July 19 that they won 20-11, and put in an effort showing what they are capable of as they constantly battled.

Deleon acknowledged losing took a bit of a toll on the players. He watched them work hard throughout the year and saw many close games slip away.

“The team believed in the talent that SOMBA has in its program, we just weren’t able to put it all together,” continued Deleon. “The team remains young, but like it’s been said many times, they are very talented.”

The Tigers will lose graduating players Tyler Lemke, who will attend Okanagan College and play for the Coyotes, and Treven Stetsko.
