The Central City Breakers from Surrey were among 50 teams that played in the Peach City Classic soccer tournament hosted by Pinnacles FC last weekend.
Part of what attracts teams is the weather and good competition. That's what brought the Breakers, who won the under-17/18 girls division defeating the Pinnacles 2-0. Breakers coach Paramjit Kooner said his players performed well, in what he said was a competitive tournament.
"They had a lot of fun," said Kooner, following their win. "Penticton is a little outing for them. We came last year and finished second."
For the Breakers, the Peach City Classic is the perfect tournament to end their season.
"We enjoy having everybody together as a team," he said. "That is why we decided to come back here. To have a good time and wrap up our summer season."
Kooner credited the Pinnacles FC staff for the job they did.
"Everybody likes to come here," he said, adding that the people are friendly.
Ezra Cremers, the executive director and head coach of Pinnacles FC, said they received positive feedback from teams. Cremers was happy with the number of teams they had, which included 10 Pinnacles FC squads, and added they get strong support from the Indo Canadian community.
"They have been fantastic," he said. "I think we would have a few more teams, but I know we had a lot of teams looking for accommodations that are affordable and it's very tough. I don't blame the hospitality industry. Boom or bust industry. We're very happy."
Cremers said with having teams come to play, it gives their squads more games before heading into the Adidas SportsPlex. Cremers said they have their teams performing how they want on the field.
"We are growing and our football is getting better, that's the most important part," he said.
