Vees shutout Eagles in their nest

Former Eagle Nic Pierog scores the winner for the Vees

A 3-0 win over the Surrey Eagles has the Penticton Vees on a three-game winning streak.

The Vees earned the win at the South Surrey Arena Saturday night without coach Fred Harbinson and forward Shane McColgan.

Both served a one-game suspension after McColgan was given a double-minor for illegal equipment penalty in the first period of Friday's win against the Salmon Arm SilverBacks, as reported by the Three V's blog.

Former Eagle Nic Pierog made his return to Surrey after being traded to Penticton before the Jan. 10 deadline and scored the winning goal at 14:09 of the first period, set up by Steen Cooper and Riley Alferd.

Just over five minutes later, the Vees added to their lead with another power play tally by Jack Ramsey.

The Vees' third goal was scored by Brad McClure, again on the power play, which went 3-for-4. Jarod Hilderman and Cody DePourcq set up McClure's 37th goal of the season.

Hunter Miska turned aside 29 shots for his second shutout of the season, while Devon Fordyce made 25 saves in the losing effort.

The Vees improve to 32-13-2-4 on the season for 70 points, giving them a three-point cushion on the West Kelowna Warriors in the BCHL's Interior Division.
