Youth cycling championship rolls into Penticton

Hayman Classic Youth Cycling championship aims to teach riders about cycling

Penticton is hosting the Hayman Classic Youth Cycling Championships May 23-24. It's expected that more than 200 athletes from B.C. will compete. While many of the races are for youngsters with some cycling experience, there will also be youth novice races for new-to-racing cyclists.

The races consist of a Saturday morning time trial over eight kilometres, as well as an afternoon short circuit race, where racers do a number of laps on a one-km loop in a group. On Sunday morning, there is a 20-km road race. Race distances vary, depending on age, gender and experience.

This event can be considered a next step to the Axel Merckx Youth Foundation events in Penticton and Kelowna in recent years.
