Centennials hang on to defeat the Vees 4-3 in Game 2

Interior Conference final tied at 1 after Centennials down Vees 4-3

Despite their best efforts, the Penticton Vees were not able to get the equalizer as the Merritt Centennials took Game 2 of the Interior Conference final 4-3.

The Vees opened the scoring on Travis St. Denis’ first goal of the playoffs in the first period. However, in the second period, three goals in nine minutes by the Centennials gave them a 3-1 cushion. Brent Fletcher’s goal extended it to 4-1. Right after that goal St. Denis scored his second of the game. Heading into the third period trailing 4-2, Steven Fogarty scored on a sniper-like wrist shot that beat Centennials goalie Tyler Steel high glove. Steel finished with 20 saves for the win, while Katunar made 28.

The Interior Conference final now shifts to Merritt for Games 3 and 4 on Friday and Saturday. Game 5 will return to Penticton on Monday.
