The Penticton Vees took Game 1 of the BCHL final with a 3-1 win against the Powell River Kings.

Joey Benik opened the scoring midway through the first period. Two minutes later, Vees captain Logan Johnston scored the deciding goal on the power play assisted by Mike Reilly and Travis St. Denis. St. Denis then made it 3-0 3:34 into the second period, as he beat Kings goalie Sean Maguire, who finished with 25 saves. However, the Kings cut the lead back to two as Daniel Schuler was able to find a way to beat Vees goalie Chad Katunar, who finished with 42 saves. That performance gave him second-star honours.  A crowd of 3,004 took in the game at the South Okanagan Events Centre. Game 2 will be at the SOEC at 7 p.m. Check www.pentictonwesternnews.com for more coverage.
