Vees hammer the Bandits to take Game 1 of Doyle Cup

Visiting Vees give Bandits fans a show scoring seven in series opener

A two-goal effort by Logan Johnson helped the Penticton Vees hammer the Brooks Bandits 7-2 in the opening game of the Doyle Cup.

Johnston, the Vees captain, opened the scoring in the first period on the power play then gave the Vees a 3-0 lead, which proved to be the winner. He also assisted on the Vees seventh goal scored by Troy Stecher on the power play. Also having a strong offensive night for the Vees were Mario Lucia with a goal and four points and Travis St. Denis with four assists.

Other Vees scorers were Joey Benik, Wade Murphy and Bryce Gervais. The Vees were 2-for-6 on the power play, while the Bandits went 1-for-4. Vees netminder Chad Katunar made 24 saves for the win, while Bandits goalie Jan Obernesser was pulled after allowing six goals on 19 shots. He was relieved by Michael Fredrick, who allowed one goal in 14 minuts of action.
