The City of Penticton will require marijuana dispensaries to pay a $2,500 application fee and an annual $5,000 licence fee.

This is a large difference between the costs of a regular business licence issued by the city, which is $175 annually.

City administration said the increased fee for dispensaries will offset administration costs such as inspection and enforcement. City councillors noted that Penticton won’t see tax revenue from the sales, while some are arguing that they should be treated as any other business.

In comparison, liquor stores in the city pay the normal cost associated with obtaining a business licence. We want to hear your opinion, do you think the city’s proposed application and licensing fees are fair?
