The 45th edition of the Penticton Vintage Car Show has come and gone, with two different Okanagan-based owners emerging victorious.
After a two-year hiatus, the Vintage Car Club of Canada returned to a familiar place to showcase nine of the South Okanagan’s most impressive vehicles — Penticton’s Cherry Lane Mall.
Dave Doman, the owner of a 1940 LaSalle Coupe, was selected as the winner by the club’s members on Saturday, April 9, after a six-day period in which the car sat in the middle of the mall’s premises.
The public was invited to come and check out the vintage cars for themselves from April 4 to 9.
While the club selected Doman’s LaSalle as the winner, car lovers within the community selected a 1934 Ford Cabriolet as the “people’s choice” winner. The public had the opportunity to cast their votes at the mall during the almost week-long event.
Other cars that appeared at the show included an early 1950s Cadillac convertible that Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh drove around in when they were in Vancouver in 1951.
The Penticton-based show has appeared at Cherry Lane Mall every spring for the last 47 years, with the exception of 2020 and 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s a very small show and it only runs for one week but it encompasses everything about cars,” Doman — who also acts as co-chair of the car show — told the Western News in March.
It is unknown has many votes the club received from the public this time around but in 2019, organizers counted almost 500 before crowning a “people’s choice” winner.
