Several dozen local businesses were under one roof on Saturday, April 2, to bring the community together once again for the South Okanagan Home and Reno Show.

It didn’t take long for the 26th annual edition of the event to be filled to capacity with members of the public. From electricians to gardeners and everything in between, there was something for any and every home project at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre starting at 10 a.m.

“We’re packed and pretty awesome to see this many people here,” said Sarah Taylor, the executive officer of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association in the South Okanagan (CHBASO).

“The home show is always a great thing to have in the community. We’re so happy to have all of our vendors under one roof and these are all local businesses.”

Representatives from a number of establishments were available to share advice with community members and interact with those interested in starting their own home projects.

Among those was Brent Anthony, who called Saturday’s event a win for both the community and Okanagan-based businesses.

“I look forward to this event every year,” the owner and installer of Sunnyside Glass Solutions said.“It’s good for the area, good for the community, and it’s great to see that there’s so many companies providing good quality service that people are interested in.”

The event is expecting to see over 6,000 attendees over the course of the weekend, with “Ask the Expert” sessions among the new additions to the show, courtesy of Gardenworks and Bartlett Tree Experts.

The two-day community event will conclude on Sunday at 4 p.m. after a special pancake breakfast is served to those in attendance starting at 9:30 a.m. People interested in attending the breakfast — which includes bacon and coffee — are asked to pay $5, with all proceeds set to go to the South Okanagan Women in Need Society.

The home show itself cost $5 to enter and marked the first in-person gathering for the event since early 2020.

“We didn’t know what to expect with this being our first big event after COVID, but we are very pleased,” Taylor said as she watched hundreds walk through the convention centere’s doors for the home show.

“It’s been a steady pace of people coming through the doors since we opened at 10 a.m. and the sessions are also going very well.”
