Chanukah at the Cannery tonight

Chabad Okanagan will be holding the fourth evening of their annual Chanukah Tour Across the Valley in Penticton tonight at the Cannery in front of Walla Foods.

Chabad’s Rabbi Shmuly Hecht says the event, which starts at 5 p.m., is being dedicated to honour baker Ben Manea and Sharon Weiner of Walla Foods in the Cannery Trade Centre on Fairview Avenue.

There will be music, sufganiyot, latkes, a free raffle and the lighting of a giant six-foot Menorah, creative crafts, Make your own ceramic tile Menorah and more. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate.

Chanukah is an eight-day holiday that runs from Dec. 2 to Dec. 10 this year, and this is the eighth time Chabad has taken Chanukah celebrations through the valley. There have already been events in Kelowna, Vernon and Salmon Arm, with more events planned for the Oliver Correctional Centre on Dec. 6, Kelowna General Hospital on Dec. 7 and Peachland on Dec. 9.

“We at Chabad Okanagan try to make it everywhere in the valley during the holidays, to ensure that everyone is included. No one should have to celebrate alone, and no one should be left alone without a celebration,” said Rabbi Hecht. “The message of the lights and the story of Chanukah reminds us that there is no such thing as too small. Never underestimate the power of one small candle, one little flame of morality, hope, care and joy.”
