Organizers for the Taste of Penticton are giving it another kick at the can to hold an event in February.
Last year the event hit a roadblock when not enough exhibitors signed up and organizers were forced to cancel it.
“The public though were showing so much interest in the event on Facebook and Twitter that they wanted it to happen,” said organizer Lori Dunn. “This year we have changed a couple of things.”
There will be two categories at this year’s Taste of Penticton and South Okanagan event — exhibitors and vendors. Organizers have also allowed wineries, breweries and spirit makers into the event as long as they are paired with a restaurant.
“We still want it to be a family event, so the idea is to have tables side-by-side to pair, for example, Cannery Brewing Company with the Elite. That way the kids can try the food and the adults can try the food and alcohol pairing,” said Dunn.
The event is open to exhibitors and vendors from the South Okanagan, from Summerland south. Organizers have also lowered the price and allowed vendors to sign up and sell their sauces or takeaway products.
“We need businesses to commit to the event. This will be our last attempt to get it off the ground, and if it doesn’t fly we won’t try again next year,” said Dunn, adding that if not enough businesses sign up they will be forced to cancel the February event.
