Keremeos’ Grist Mill TV plays every Saturday morning

The popular Keremeos attraction is back airing its Virtual Field Trips

On Nov. 7, the Grist Mill and Gardens Historic Site will be bringing back its popular Virtual Field Trips under a brand new name — GristMill.TV.

Episodes will be broadcast live every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and will explore heritage arts and crafts, old recipes, local history, agriculture and all the other things that make the Grist Mill site so special.

“We were overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the videos when they launched back in the spring,” says Chris Mathieson, the site’s general manager. “At the time, we didn’t know what the summer would look like, so they were an amazing way to connect with people who might not have had the chance to visit us this year because of COVID-19. Once we realized we could open the site for the summer, our daily Virtual Field Trip videos were put on pause.”

With that previous experience and some equipment upgrades, the new videos will be more polished and able to broadcast from many more locations on the Grist Mill property. “Thanks to an investment by the Province of B.C., we now have high-speed wifi covering the entire site,” says Mathieson.

“We also bought a digital microscope, a new camera and some software that lets us do things like bring guests into our live-streams, creating so many new and exciting opportunities.

The Grist Mill and Gardens is a provincial historic site operated by Grist Mill CCC, a Community Contribution Corporation. The site has much to offer visitors: tour the spectacular gardens, explore a working 1877 waterwheel-powered flour mill. Prior to COVID, visitors could enjoy fresh-made soups, salads and sandwiches made from the freshest local produce in the restaurant, browse in the unique gift shop, or stay overnight at the creekside RV campground.
