One Penticton woman followed her passion and has ended up as one of the finalists of the First Choice Haircutter’s Be the Face contest.

Colleen Bachmann was surprised to learn that she was selected as one of the few to make it to the final round of voting.

“I just entered, not thinking anything of it, and a couple of months later I got the call saying I was one of the finalists; the only one out of the Okanagan that was chosen,” said the 40-year-old Penticton resident.

The total registrations for the contest, which was broken down into different categories based on age and sex, were 9,483. In Bachmann’s category, there were 629 entries.

“I’m really proud of myself, I’m humbled,” Bachmann said. “I think it’s really cool that I’m the only one in the Okanagan.”

The winners of the contest are flown to New York, given modelling training and a shoot with a professional photographer.

Bachmann is one of five finalists in the 40-59 age category, and said the contest represents a great opportunity — not only for her, but mature models in general.

“It’s good for mature models to get exposure, because it’s usually all about the young, thin models, and now a lot more focus is on the mature models lately … us mature models can be just as competitive with the young ones,” she said.

Voting for the contest ends on May 31. To vote or for more information on the contest, visit http://bethefaceoffch.com.
