Ten Thousand Villages Canada and Habitat for Humanity Canada have joined forces in a 2011 fundraising and awareness campaign.
Through a series of in-store events and on-line promotions the two non-profit organizations, closely aligned by their missions and strong volunteer bases, will work to raise support for the human right to decent, affordable housing and for fair trade relationships around the world.
“We are very excited to embark on this new partnership with Ten Thousand Villages,” said Nicole Hrinco, national manager of corporate partnerships at Habitat for Humanity Canada. “Like us, they support families abroad living in need, and share the desire to improve the quality of life in communities here in Canada.”
The partnership began on March 14 with the very successful Everybody Needs a Home campaign, in which $10 from the sale of each Habitat promotion birdhouse was donated to Habitat for Humanity Canada.
The upcoming donation coupon campaign is expected to generate even more excitement. From April 25 until May 8, 20 per cent of all purchases made at Ten Thousand Villages Canada using the fundraiser coupons or by mentioning the Habitat for Humanity Canada Fundraiser, will go to Habitat for Humanity Canada’s local initiatives. Coupons and information will be available on the organizations’ websites and Facebook pages, as well as through e-communications and newsletters.
The partnership culminates in the fall with the Home Is Where the Heart is campaign. One dollar from the sale of each special edition “Home/Maison” stone will be donated to Habitat for Humanity Canada. Skillfully crafted by Indian artisans, these palm-sized, heart-shaped stones make wonderful reminders of the importance of house and home, and of fair trade.
The partnership is a natural fit. Ten Thousand Villages Canada and Habitat for Humanity Canada are both volunteer-driven and dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty. By combining forces, lives in Canada and around the world will be transformed.
