Penticton Breakfast Club needs your help

The demand at local schools has grown and now they are in desperate need of more volunteers

We all know breakfast is an important meal, especially for kids. Studies have shown that kids and teens who eat breakfast have more energy, can focus better at school, and eat healthier throughout the day.

Penticton Breakfast Club’s goal is to ensure all kids are fed a healthy breakfast every morning before school so they can interact with their peers in a positive environment.

But the local charity needs your help.

The breakfast club is looking for volunteers to help during the school season: select weekdays (or when you can) from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Westbench, Columbia or Queen’s Park elementary schools in Penticton.

Duties may include prepping food, serving breakfast, and helping to clean up.

In the 2019-2020 school year, approximately 85 students participated in the program each day (Queens Park 40, Westbench 25, Columbia 20).

In 2020-2021, more than 100 students participated in the breakfast club. And as this pandemic drags on, the breakfast club is expecting even more of a demand with so many families impacted by COVID-19, said the club’s organizer through the Penticton Speedway Foundation.

While it’s been challenging to continue the breakfast club through the pandemic, with some schools not participating at all, there is plenty of need out there.

You must complete a criminal record check and take the FoodSafe course online.
