PHOTOS: Art and music delight hundreds at Summerland Ornamental Gardens

Visitors were treated to live music and art as well as garden tours

Friends of Summerland Ornamental Gardens welcomed hundreds to an afternoon of art and music in the Gardens on Sunday, July 24.

Local painters, potters, and fibre artists were on the lawns of the gardens, tucked under the shade of towering trees and amongst blooming flowers making and selling their art. Dozens were on the lawn listening to the fun sounds of the Double Sharp duo.

The local Bonsai Club was also there to show some of their living art. Dan, from the club showed off a boxwood bonsai that he rescued from the landfill eight years ago and turned it into a thriving bonsai.

Another artist repurposed her mom’s old Eaten catalogues and her dad’s stamp collection into drinking jugs, charcuterie boards and garden seed boxes.

A painter working in the gazebo can often be founding painting Sun-Oka landscapes.

At 1 p.m., those interested in learning more about the Gardens took in a free guided tour where they heard about the history of the Dominion Experimental Farm, the Gardens themselves, and the current focus on water conservation and providing habitat and food for native pollinators (birds, bees and butterflies). The event was free but of course donations were welcome.
